About Matthew S. Brown

Matthew Brown knows that litigation rarely goes exactly as planned. That’s why he’s built a reputation for staying a step ahead—anticipating the unexpected, developing compelling arguments and persuasive strategies and helping clients avoid surprises whenever possible. With more than 20 years of experience in insurance coverage, business litigation and intellectual property matters, Matt enjoys working alongside clients to solve complex problems and protect what they’ve built.

Before entering private practice, Matt worked for one of Ohio’s largest property and casualty insurers, giving him firsthand insight into how insurance companies evaluate claims, interpret policies and make coverage decisions. Today, he puts that perspective and his 30 years of insurance coverage experience to work for clients facing insurance coverage disputes involving property and casualty claims, errors and omissions, directors and officers liability, commercial general liability and other complex coverage issues. He’s successfully argued cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, federal district courts across the country, arbitration proceedings with FINRA, JAMS, and AAA throughout the United States, and appellate courts and trial courts throughout Ohio.

Matt represents businesses of every size—from closely held companies to publicly traded corporations—in high-stakes disputes. Whether it’s a contract dispute, shareholder conflict, business divorce, non-compete issue, trade secret or other intellectual property litigation, employment matter, securities issue, construction dispute or wrongful death claim, he focuses on finding practical solutions while preparing every case as though it may end up in court.

When the workday is over, you’ll likely find Matt taking in a game or adding to his bourbon collection. A self-proclaimed bourbon enthusiast, he’s collected more than 300 unique bottles—including several that date back to the Prohibition era, when bourbon was legally prescribed for medicinal purposes.
