about Shawn K Judge
Whether you need attorney representation in civil litigation or are already involved in a lawsuit and looking for a mediator, Shawn can help.
Focusing on class actions, mass torts, and other complex litigation matters, Shawn brings to his practice a deep understanding of how to litigate in the federal and state courts in Ohio.
Before joining Isaac Wiles, Shawn served as a judicial clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the Supreme Court of Ohio, and Ohio’s Ninth District Court of Appeals. He routinely lectures on federal civil litigation, including serving as an instructor for the Southern District of Ohio Federal Practice Seminar, which attorneys are required to take before they are admitted to the bar of the U.S. District Court. He also serves on the Local Rules Committee of the federal court.
Shawn has served as an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law, and Capital University Law School. He is a former Ohio Bar Examiner and, for over a decade, has been an editorial consultant to the Ohio Judicial Conference’s Ohio Jury Instructions Committee. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio has appointed Shawn as Chair of two pipeline compensation commissions, which determine the compensation to be paid to landowners when a pipeline crosses their property.
Applying this experience, Shawn has litigated in federal district and circuit courts around the country, as well as in Ohio’s state courts and in the Supreme Court of Ohio.
Shawn’s representative cases include:
- Special Counsel for the Ohio Attorney General, litigating claims against five of the country’s largest pharmaceutical companies alleging misrepresentations and deceptive marketing that caused the nation’s current opioid crisis;
- Co-Lead Counsel in class action alleging improper deductions from royalty payments to lessors of a major oil and gas operator;
- Liaison Counsel in consumer class action against Honda alleging undue vibration in 2015 and 2016 Honda CR-V model vehicles; and
- Counsel in litigation against JUUL Labs, Inc. alleging products liability, negligence, fraudulent omission, and related claims arising from the marketing and sale of vaping products to minors.
Shawn is an experienced mediator who offers private mediation services for those looking to avoid or to end costly litigation. He will mediate any civil dispute filed in or heading to federal or state court, excluding domestic relations and juvenile division cases.
For over a decade, Shawn mediated cases for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio as a judicial clerk, and now serves as a volunteer mediator for the Court. He received mediation training at the Harvard Negotiation Institute at Harvard Law School and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law.
Shawn is a member of the Ohio Mediation Association and the alternative dispute resolution sections of the American Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association. He chairs the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Columbus division of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
