about Mark H. Troutman

Mark Troutman protects consumers. He’s relentless, laser-focused on details, highly creative, and ready to serve at a moment’s notice.

As the co-leader of the firm’s class action efforts on behalf of plaintiffs across the country, Mark often battles some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated companies.  After spending the beginning part of his career doing defense work, Mark is dedicated to vindicating the rights of consumers against corporate misdeeds.  Mark’s work takes him across the country, practicing in state courts throughout Ohio and federal courts from California to Virginia.  Such a practice relies on relationships with other lawyers from across the country, which is essential when taking on adversaries who are sophisticated and are not afraid to use their vast resources to defend themselves.

As a co-author of the leading guide on Ohio Consumer Law for nearly a decade, Mark has kept up with the emerging trends in consumer law.  This enables him to assume leadership roles in his cases to help guide this complex litigation.  Importantly, keeping up with the current legal trends also helps the lawyers he teams with to think ahead on the impact of certain decisions in his cases and how they influence the final result.

Mark’s representative cases include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead Counsel in Consumer Class Action against Porsche in which the parties settled the plaintiffs’ claims for tens of millions of dollars;
  • Special Counsel for the Ohio Attorney General, claims against five of the country’s largest pharmaceutical companies alleging misrepresentations and deceptive marketing that caused the nation’s current opioid crisis;
  • Lead Counsel in Consumer Class Action against Global Fitness gyms that operated under the name Urban Active, which eventually settled for amounts equivalent to several months’ gym dues;
  • Co-Lead Counsel in class action claiming improper deductions from royalty payments to lessors of major oil and gas operator; and,
  • Liaison Counsel in Consumer Class Action against Honda alleging undue vibration in their 2015 and 2016 Honda CR-V model vehicles.
