“Letter: Register communication disability with the state,” The Columbus Dispatch
In a letter to the editor published in The Columbus Dispatch on April 18, David Moser discusses recently passed Ohio House Bill 115 and the positive impact it will have on the disabled community in light of April being Autism Awareness Month.
The new law allows anyone with a communication disability in Ohio to register their diagnosis. During traffic stops, officers are then notified that the person they are pulling over has a communication disability and can implement appropriate training and protocols.
Registering a communication disability with the state is voluntary. Therefore, the program can be effective only if people participate. The community must spread the word, encouraging those with communications disabilities to register.
